About the FABRIC and MANUFACTURER
WHAT TYPE OF FABRIC DO WE USE?
We primarily work in DuPont Nylon Lycra. We do however work in polarfleece and quantec as well as lightweight cire and Oxford waterproof fabrics. We have a stretch division which concentrates largely on the LYCRA fabrics and a non-stretch division which concentrates on the other fabrics.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN LYCRA AND ELASTANE?
Elastane is the generic term for the fibre used in stretch fabrics. The largest and 'best' producer of the fibre is DuPont. The registered brand of their product is LYCRA only by DuPont. As we guarantee all our products we use only Lycra.
HOW RESISTANT IS YOUR SWIMWEAR TO CHLORINE?
All Elastanes are based on rubber. The rubber will always be susceptible to breakdown as a result of exposure to chlorine, salt, perspiration and suntan creams. Ongoing research is improving the resistance all the time and the adherence to care instructions will always ensure a good life for your garment. We use only DuPont Lycra which is considered to be the best of the Elastanes.
HOW LONG WILL MY GARMENT LAST?
Your BeetleBugz garment will comfortably last a full season under normal conditions if the care instructions are followed. A number of factors including the chemical content of the water, suntan lotions, perspiration and bad care will affect the lifespan.
HOW DOES IT STAND UP TO WASH AND WEAR?
If the wash instructions are followed then the garment will suffer no ill effects in the washing process.
WHAT ARE OUR MANUFACTURERS QUALITY STANDARDS?
They believe they have amongst the highest standards worldwide. Quality at Second Skins is an ethic. Every person is well versed in excellence and the team takes great pride in the end product. Testament to this is that in sixteen years we have not produced enough rejects to stock a small factory shop.
IS THE FABRIC COLOURFAST IN SALT AND CHLORINE?
All dyestuffs are subject to fading over time and more especially in harsh salt and chlorine solutions. You will however get a good life from the colors if the care instructions are carefully followed.
Our UPF Rating
WHAT MAKES THE SUN PROTECTION FABRIC UPF 50?
A combination of the weight, thickness of fibers used, closeness of knitting, dyestuffs and the processes.
DOES THE UPF DIMINISH OVER TIME?
Yes, however the fabric will break down prior to the UPF becoming dangerously low. The rating is based on a new dry garment. This is the very reason why it is imperative that a UPF 50 fabric be used. Factors such as stress, being wet and age and wear will diminish the UPF factor slightly over time when worn.
HOW IS THE UPFRATING GIVEN?
The factor is given based on tests being performed and certain minimum standards being achieved. The test is performed at an accredited laboratory with a spectrometer according to the Diffey and Robson method.
DO YOU HAVE OFFICIAL PERMISSION TO USE THE CANSA SWINGTAG?
YES! We are an official user of the tag and adhere strictly to all the standards related to its use. Health Canada has inspected and approved the use of The Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA) tags on our clothing.
